The University of Maryland, Baltimore (UMB) School of Pharmacy’s Department of Pharmaceutical Science is currently seeking creative, motivated, and disciplined candidates to fill the Hydrogen-Deuterium Exchange Mass Spectrometry HDX-MS Specialist (Lab Research Specialist) within the Deredge laboratory.

The position will primarily involve the use of HDX-MS to characterize the structure and dynamics of a variety of protein systems, both from therapeutic and non-therapeutic development perspective, obtained from various external investigators, industry partners and clients. The position is funded by grant or contract and will offer extensive opportunity for interactions with investigators from a leading pharmaceutical company. In particular, the successful applicant will be responsible for liaising with the industry partner to design, develop and execute various workflows focused on HDX-MS.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Identify, advise, or assist investigators with sample preparation strategies.
- Design and develop appropriate reaction conditions and HDX-MS workflow to characterize the structure and dynamics of various protein systems.
- Implement the developed HDX-MS reaction and workflow.
- Perform, analyze, and interpret HDX-MS acquisitions. Prepare reports and all appropriate documentation including administrative and business-related documents.
- Abide by all requirements, regulations, laws as well as agreements pertaining to the work, including non-disclosure agreements if applicable.
- Participate in development and implementation of training materials used to train staff, students, or fellows in HDX-MS and other advanced techniques by mass spectrometry used in the Deredge laboratory and/or the Mass Spectrometry center.
- Participate in activities pertaining to the Deredge laboratory and MS Center operations including laboratory and HDX-MS platform maintenance.
- May perform independent research in technological developments in HDX-MS, intact Mass Spectrometry and Native Mass Spectrometry.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.

Requirements
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION: Bachelor's degree in biology, chemistry, biochemistry, or field of study related to the research of the laboratory. Master's degree or PhD is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: Three (3) years of experience including two (2) years in mass spectrometry. Experience in research success and working both independently and in a team environment preferred. Experience with Waters liquid chromatography and Synapt instrumentation preferred. Post-doc experience preferred.
