Description

We are seeking up to two full-time postdoctoral fellows for behavioral science research (one on vaping and one on HPV vaccination).

1. Fellowship 1 in Vaping: This postdoc will support behavioral science research projects in vaping. One project is studying the impact of health warnings for vaping in a randomized clinical trial (NIDA-funded R01). A second project is studying uncontrolled vaping and strategies for reducing uncontrolled use in a longitudinal survey (FDA/NCI-funded R01 project). A third potential project, through pending funding for a UNC-wide TCORS, will examine policies to discourage use of menthol cigarettes.

2. Fellowship 2 in HPV Vaccination: This postdoc will support behavioral science research projects in HPV vaccination. Funding comes from Project 1 of the NCI-funded P01 Program Project “Improving Provider Announcement Communication Training (IMPACT).” Project 1 will conduct research to expand the role of the full primary care team including RNs and MAs in HPV vaccine recommendations, optimize standing orders, and evaluate an intervention in a cluster randomized clinical trial. https://www.med.unc.edu/hpvcommunication

Our research uses theories from health and social psychology to understand health behaviors and create high-impact interventions. The postdocs will work closely with an interdisciplinary research team led by Dr. Noel Brewer and join a successful and award-winning cohort of scholars in his Health Cognition and Behavior Lab, https://noelbrewer.web.unc.edu/. The team values high-quality research that has public health impact, a fun and collaborative working environment, and efforts to achieve equity. The postdocs will assist with study design, implementation, quantitative statistical analysis, and interpretation and publication of study findings. In addition, the postdocs will develop their own research questions related to their fellowship and will receive multidisciplinary training and mentorship from senior researchers at UNC.

The salary is $65,000 to $80,000 per year plus benefits. The positions’ start dates are ideally between June and August 2023 and are for 2-3 years. The postdocs will receive support in developing a federal grant proposal, funds for travel to 1-2 conferences a year to present their research, and ongoing mentoring.

Applicants should submit: (1) a cover letter indicating the position/s they are applying to, the date they are available to start, and three references; (2) a curriculum vitae, and (3) a one- to two-page synopsis of their research interests, including a brief description of their career plans. Apply at https://unc.peopleadmin.com/postings/250203. We will review applications on a rolling basis.

Requirements
