The National Cancer Institute (NCI) is recruiting for a Supervisory Data Scientist, to serve in the Computational and Systems Biology Branch (CSBB), Biometric Research Program (BRP)(http://brb.nci.nih.gov), Division of Cancer Treatment and Diagnosis (DCTD).

Position: This Title 42 position will serve as the Chief, Computational & Systems Biology Branch (CSBB), BRP, and will report to and serve as the senior computational biology and bioinformatics expert advisor to the Associate Director, BRP, DCTD for development and application of computational methods, and bioinformatic and software systems to address major extramural and intramural research in the areas of computational and systems biology, bioinformatics, preclinical cancer therapeutics, oncology clinical trials, molecular diagnosis, and cancer genomics.

This position has responsibility for ensuring the integrity and reliability of clinical diagnostics and informatics systems critical to guiding patient therapy in oncology precision medicine clinical trials and for overseeing the scientific design and analysis of major research in drug discovery, clinical trials and diagnostics development programs. The incumbent will be a key partner in building and sustaining a vigorous drug/diagnostics co-development program within NCI, NIH, and in collaboration with NCI-funded extramural groups. The incumbent will be responsible for providing expertise and oversight of the bioinformatic and computational aspects in the strategic planning and implementation of major preclinical programs, laboratory networks, and complex clinical trials that rely on state-of-the-art genomic assay technologies.

Position Requirements: Applicants must possess a doctoral level degree (e.g. Ph.D. or M.D.) in an academic field related to the health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this experience and equivalent experience. We are seeking a senior level candidate with expertise in computational and bioinformatic methods with the understanding of molecular biology, genetics and oncology drug development. In addition, the position requires knowledge and demonstrated experience required for proper pre-clinical and clinical study design, laboratory assay development, molecular diagnostics development, development of complex informatics systems meeting reliability, security and regulatory requirements for use in clinical trials, and analysis of preclinical and clinical studies involving novel molecular assay technologies (frequently including “omics” technologies). Also, this position serves as a supervisor and should have supervisory experience in managing high-level scientists and administrative staff.

Salary/Benefits: This position will be filled under a Title 42(f) excepted service appointment.  Salary is competitive and will be commensurate with the experience of the candidate. A recruitment or relocation bonus may be available, and relocation expenses may be paid. A full package of federal Civil Service benefits is available, including: retirement, health and life insurance, long-term care insurance, paid leave, and a Thrift Savings Plan (401K equivalent).
